Hooman Samani is the Director of the AIART Lab (Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Technology Laboratory) and an Associate Professor with the Department of Electrical Engineering, College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, National Taipei University, Taiwan.
His career in robotics and artificial intelligence research has spanned many countries.
He was awarded a PhD degree from the Graduate School for Integrative Science and Engineering (NGS), Electrical & Computer Engineering Department, National University of Singapore (NUS). After obtaining his PhD degree he became a Research Fellow at the Keio-NUS CUTE Center, which is a collaborative research center with locations in both the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Keio University in Japan.
His proposed research topic is Lovotics, which involves multidisciplinary research in artificial intelligence for human-robot affective relationships. This research comprises of several topics including robotics, engineering, computer science, interaction design, philosophy, psychology, mathematics, computational neuroscience, art and computational intelligence, for developing a truly interactive robot with pragmatic affection. Lovotics robots, Kissenger, Mini-Surrogate and XOXO are some novel applications of Lovotics research.
In tandem with his research in robotics, he has participated and won several international RoboCup competitions.
He is also actively serving several robotics and AI related journals and conferences as Editorial Board member, Organizing Committee member, workshop organizer and reviewer.
He was featured in many international media including the BBC, Discovery Channel, Reuters and more, featuring his research in the emerging field of Lovotics.
Teaching is his passion and research is his habit. He is a proponent of “The best way to predict the future is to create it”. In addition to the robotics and artificial intelligence world, he has championship medals in chess, football and swimming. He enjoys the serendipity of traveling without planning and appreciates literature and poetry. In his spare time he plays guitar when he is in the mood, and tennis when he is not.
